WALK AMONG THE OLIVE TREES – 10th NATIONAL DAY

On Sunday 25 October, the municipality will take part for the tenth consecutive year in the National Day organised by the National Association of Olive Oil Cities. The route, approximately 8 km long, will wind through the Martani Mountains, passing through Ocenelli, ancient castles and hermitages

For the tenth consecutive year, Spoleto is taking part in the National ‘Walk Among the Olive Trees’ Day, an initiative promoted by the National Association of Olive Oil Cities to promote the culture of the olive tree and high-quality olive oil, the protection of the olive-growing landscape, and an understanding of the history and traditions linked to olive cultivation.


The event is scheduled for Sunday 25 October and offers a walk through the Martani Mountains, starting and finishing in the hamlet of Ocenelli.

A route set amidst a landscape characterised by nature, history and spirituality, which will allow participants to discover some of the area’s most evocative sites. The route, which is part of the Martani Trekking hiking project, will pass by significant historical and religious sites, including Castello de La Costa and the hermitages of Sant’Onofrio and San Girolamo.

The walk covers approximately 8 kilometres, mainly at an altitude of between 400 and 600 metres, with gentle gradients. The route is therefore suitable for walkers with a good level of basic fitness and offers an opportunity to explore the area at a leisurely and sustainable pace, in close contact with the landscape and the olive groves of the Martani Mountains.

The walk will end in Ocenelli, where the ‘Territorio e Tradizioni Cima Panco’ Association, at the hamlet’s former school – now used as an exhibition centre for local produce and a visitor centre – will offer participants a tasting of typical local products, paired with the unmissable DOP olive oil from the Colli Martani.

Participation is free, but places are limited.
