(In)grato (ungrateful) is the current stand-up comedy show by Italian comedian Antonio Ornano, an ironic monologue that explores human contradictions and the dynamics of gratitude, often forced, in modern society, with a sharp but also compassionate tone.


The show, written with Matteo Monforte, Simone Repetto and Carlo Turati, is directed by Alessandro Nidi and satirically analyses how we try to be happy and what we really are, prompting reflection on human “splendid fallibility”.

In an age of “recipes for happiness” in which everyone seems to be competing to show how grateful they are to life for the gifts they have received, in which we must be advocates of our own existence, in which everything simply depends on us and our willingness to connect with the vibrational energy of the universe, there are those who may remain a little perplexed. The feeling is that we are so busy trying to become what the world wants us to be that we have forgotten who we are.

And so there are those who, amid all this glossy gratitude, remain undecided and perhaps decide to practise genuine ingratitude, just to take a dip in reality, to look with irony, lightness and mercy at the splendid fallibility of all human beings, because even the best make mistakes, and when that happens, we are happy.
