THE FESTIVAL DEI DUE MONDI UNVEILS FIVE SHOWS ON THE PROGRAMME

A sneak preview of opera, dance, symphonic pop, classical music and prose. Tickets are already on sale.

The Festival dei Due Mondi, scheduled to take place from 26 June to 12 July 2026, unveils its next edition with five previews that reveal the vision of the new artistic director Daniele Cipriani.  In the bel mezzo of everything will be the theme of the upcoming edition: ‘The bel mezzo is not just a physical place. It is a posture, a state of mind. It is choosing to be at the living centre of things, between excellence and inclusiveness, memory and experimentation. It is the beating heart where everything comes together.’

The 69th edition will open with Samuel Barber's opera Vanessa, with libretto by Gian Carlo Menotti, scheduled for Friday 26 June and repeated on Sunday 28 June. A work symbolising the dialogue between Europe and America, this opera returns to Spoleto after sixty-five years, directed by Leo Muscato and featuring an internationally renowned cast. The Filarmonica del Teatro Comunale di Bologna will be conducted by South Korean conductor Sora Elisabeth Lee, making her debut in Italy.

Tuesday 30 June will be the turn of symphonic pop with Mika, who will perform in Piazza Duomo with Mika Symphonique. Mika, an internationally renowned artist, will perform his most beloved songs in a symphonic key, accompanied by an orchestra and choir conducted by Simon Leclerc.

On Friday 3 July, again in Piazza Duomo, Canadian Yannick Nézet-Séguin, currently music director of the Metropolitan Opera in New York and the Philadelphia Orchestra, will conduct the London Symphony Orchestra, with pianist Yuja Wang, performing works by Rachmaninov and Prokofiev.

As for dance, during the Festival’s opening weekend, from Friday 26 to Monday 29 June, Rambert – the UK’s longest-running and most influential contemporary dance company – will perform This is Rambert, a triptych bringing together some of the most compelling names in contemporary choreography.

The first preview of the theatre programme features the superb Peter Stein, who will stage Anton Chekhov's Platonov, a visionary, powerful and surprisingly topical play, at San Simone from Friday 26th to Monday 29th June.
