From December to May, the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale continues its activities with readings in the library, a Christmas concert, the Pomeriggi del Lirico Sperimentale (Afternoons of the Experimental Opera House) and two special events to celebrate the institution's first 80 years. A programme entitled Musica e Parole (Music and Words) offers the city of Spoleto new opportunities to discover the voices, stories and documents that animate the opera house, even out of season.

Readings in the library

OperaBiblio – the library of the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale, located in the former Caserma Minervio in Piazza Garibaldi in Spoleto – offers a series of events dedicated to the pleasure of reading and discovering the city through stories, voices and memories. Two events curated by Lucia Andreini and Raffaella Clerici in collaboration with Fita Umbria are scheduled: Christmas Stories, Christmas readings for families and children (Saturday 13 December 2025, 4 p.m.) and Il ponte sanguinario (The Bloody Bridge), a walk through books, legends and stories (Saturday 21 March 2026, 4 p.m.). Christmas Concert

The Teatro Lirico Sperimentale Christmas Concert will be held on Wednesday 17 December 2025 at 8.30 pm at the Teatro Caio Melisso.

The programme includes the performance of Antonín Dvořák's Mass in D major for four soloists, choir and organ, and a selection of the most famous traditional Christmas carols. Conductor Mauro Presazzi. Soloists and choir of the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale.

A moment of reflection, illuminated by the high degree of melodic and polyphonic invention typical of the composer of the New World Symphony, will be followed by a more festive and light-hearted moment, at the end of which it will be natural to raise a glass to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Afternoons at the Experimental Opera House

The most significant documents from the Belli-Argiris Study Centre – Historical Archive of the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale are once again the subject of an exhibition and musical tour of the city's main cultural venues this year. Four events are scheduled: Restored Music (Sala Pegasus, Thursday 29 January 2026, 6 p.m.), Beniamino Gigli in Spoleto, testimonies from the archives (Perugia State Archives, Spoleto Section, Tuesday 17 February 2026, 6 p.m.), Women of Opera, Music and Readings (Circolo del Clitunno, Thursday 30 April 2026, 6 p.m.) and Between Past and Future, Historical Posters in the Digital Age (Biblioteca Comunale “G. Carducci”, Thursday 28 May 2026, 6 p.m.).

Each meeting will be led by Raffaella Clerici (archivist, Centro Studi “Belli-Argiris”), who will talk with guests and experts, with musical interludes by the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale. Admission is free. For information: +39 0743 221645.

Sperimentale 80

To celebrate the Sperimentale's first 80 years, two special events dedicated to the history and identity of the institution are planned. The first will be a meeting entitled 40 Years for the Sperimentale, the artistic direction of Michelangelo Zurletti (Sala Pegasus, Thursday 18 December 2025, 6 p.m.), while the second will be a visit to the exhibition Lirico Sperimentale.
