The great beauty

Study Week on the Early Middle Ages

The Study Week on the Early Middle Ages, traditionally held starting on the Thursday after Easter, is a particularly influential conference event in the world of medieval studies. There is no great scholar or intellectual of international renown who, having dedicated his or her studies to the Middle Ages, has not delivered a lecture at these very important meetings, which over the years have explored every domain of early medieval historiography.

The Study Weeks on the Early Middle Ages are promoted by the 'Fondazione Centro Italiano Studi sull’Alto Medio Evo' (CISAM) in Spoleto, which was founded in 1952 on the initiative of Prof. Giuseppe Ermini, then Rector of the University of Perugia.
The Centre promotes research and documentation on every aspect of the institutional, economic, social and cultural history of the European Middle Ages, with particular - but not exclusive - reference to the early medieval centuries (5th-11th centuries).
In addition to the Study Weeks, CISAM organises meetings and conferences that are much appreciated by those who wish to stay updated on the latest results and most innovative orientations in the medieval field.
In order to support these events, from the very beginning the Centre has launched its own publishing activity, which thanks to a gradual and steady growth has now become one of the largest specialised publishing houses worldwide.
